Devastating earthquakes have killed thousands of people in Turkey and Syria. People need help now. 

On 6th February 2023, an earthquake struck south-east Turkey and north-west Syria. A second earthquake struck a few hours later. Turkey has declared a state of emergency, and both countries have appealed for urgent international assistance.  

Estimates state that 17 million people are exposed in total, with Syria already in crisis after 13 years of war, an ongoing cholera outbreak and harsh winter conditions. 

DEC members are already providing medical treatment, shelter, winter kits with warm clothes and blankets, food and clean water. But they urgently need funds to reach more people. 

The Co-operative Bank are supporting the DEC Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal by helping to raise funds. The Bank will be making an initial donation of £20,000 to the appeal.
